HID Buyers Guide

Welcome to our HID guide and information section where we will educate you on what HID lighting is all about, how it works, and how to upgrade your vehicle to this state of the art technology.  All of the HID kits we carry include everything needed to convert your vehicle from factory equipped halogen lighting to High Intensity Discharge.

Use the guides below to find what size bulbs your vehicle uses.  HID conversion kits can be used for high beam, low beam, as well as fog lights.

Step 1) Lookup your vehicle's factory bulb size.

Step 2) Search for HID conversion kits by bulb size below.

Step 3) Installing our HID Conversion Kits into your vehicle.

Our HID conversion kits are simple and easy to install.

Lay out the components and find a good location in your engine bay to mount your ballasts. Be sure you adjust the included wires to easily reach both ballasts and in turn both bulbs. Once you identify your mounting locations, mount them securely with the included zip ties.

Unplug the factory wires and remove the stock halogen bulbs from your headlight housings. Now connect one of the factory plugs to the turn on wire for the relay. The factory plug closest to the battery often works best and will allow you to daisy chain the second ballast to your other headlight.

Run your wires along the perimeter of your engine bay around from one headlight to the other. Once you have laid out your wires, connect your ballasts and carefully plug the new bulbs into the headlight housing. It should go in the same way the old one came out. Once securely fastened into place; plug the wires from the ballast into the bulb.

Now connect the red power wire to your battery and turn on your new HID headlights!

**note on Boltz and Xetronic brand kits there is no connection made at the battery.  Simply plug in the ballast to the factory head light socket and connect the HID bulbs to the ballast.

Step 4) Enjoy your newly upgraded lights with improved night time visibility.

What is HID?

HID, High Intensity Discharge, refers to lighting technology that relies on an electrical charge to ignite xenon gas in a sealed bulb, similar to the lightning phenomenon in the sky. HID lighting does not have a filament but instead creates light by igniting an electrical discharge between two electrodes in an air tight tiny quartz capsule filled with xenon gas. HID lighting are also called Xenon lighting, referring to the gas inside the bulb.

HID vs. Halogen Technologies

HID lighting improves durability by 10 times as road vibrations can cause damage to halogen filament, but there is nothing to break inside HID bulb. These light sources also produce a blue-white light that is safer because it is closer to natural daylight. The color temperature is more than 5000K compared to 2300K for halogen. The light output from a 35W HID Xenon lamp is 300% more light than a 55W halogen bulb. The HID Xenon system will also consume much less power from your vehicles electrical system and generate much less heat during operation.

HID Advantages

  • 3X Brigther & more consistent illumination of the road, and increases comfort & reduces fatigue when driving at night
  • Produces blue-white light that is safer because it is closer to natural daylight
  • 10X Longer Lasting. No need to replace for life of the vehicle
  • 35% less power consumption, thus generate much less heat during operation

 Color Temperature

Color Temperature is a measurement in Degrees Kelvin (K) that indicates the hue of light source. There is a misconception that color temperature is a rating of the brightness of the HID bulb. The truth is that the higher the color temperature, the less light output from the HID bulb.

However, all HID light is much brighter than Halogen, even if it is a 35W 12000K HID bulb, the light output still maintain well over 2700lm; which is still 300% brighter than 55W Halogen with 700lm.
